Country Plaque

The country, standing on a desk. Its outline raised off a dark panel — in real terrain relief, the mountains and plains from the same elevation data as our maps, in one colour or banded by height, or flat and filled with the colours of its flag. Clean, or detailed down to the rivers, the lakes and the capital. A pin for the hometown. Up to three lines beneath, or none. In its own slotted base. Every country.

One colour, or the land banded by height — lowlands, highlands, peaks — each its own colour.

We find it on the map and raise a small ring there. Put its name in a line below if you like.

Leave every line empty for no lettering at all; the country then fills the panel.

Inlaid flush in the back of the panel, in the lettering colour - a dedication, a date, who it's from. Turn the preview round to see it.

How it's made. The back panel, the country and the lettering print as one fused piece with a colour change at each layer. In terrain relief the country stands 3 mm off the panel and its highest ground another 2.5, 4.5 or 7 mm above that — real elevation, exaggerated so a plain reads as a plain and a range as a range; banded by height, each band is its own colour. In flag colours the country is flat and each colour of the flag is its own inlaid piece, flush with the face. Detailed plaques use the 1:10m Natural Earth outline; rivers and lakes are a shallow inlay that follows the terrain, the capital a small raised star, and far-off islands sit in their own framed insets. 180 mm wide, about 130 mm tall in its 190 mm base.
