The putter and the balls. The putter is a centre-shafted mallet for a 3–6 year old (about 57 cm / 22½ in): the head, three shaft tubes and a ribbed grip screw together on printed threads, so it packs flat and goes back together in a minute. The balls are golf-ball size, printed as two hollow halves in two colors that screw together at the equator — light enough to putt indoors without marking anything. Buy either on its own, or add them to a course for less.
How it plays. Every piece is a chunky flat print that lies flat on carpet or wood; a golf ball rolls up onto a 4 mm plate without noticing. The cup ring and the ramp-over have a 58 mm cup the ball drops into. The hoop and pendulum gates are flat frames that stand in a slotted base — the pendulum's paddle swings across the gate on a pin, so the child pushes it and times the putt. Each hole comes with a numbered flag that stands in a keyed pocket. Use any golf ball or the foam practice balls from a kids' putter set. Ages 3+ — the pendulum pin is the only small part.
