105. Al-Fil

The Elephant · Meccan · 5 verses

Bismi Allāhi ar-raḥmāni ar-raḥīm

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

105:1

Alam tara kayfa faʿala rabbuka biʾaṣḥābi al-fīl

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?

105:2

Alam yajʿal kaydahum fī taḍlīl

Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,

105:3

Waʾarsala ʿalayhim ṭayran abābīl

And send against them swarms of flying creatures,

105:4

Tarmīhim biḥijāratin min sijjīl

Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,

105:5

Fajaʿalahum kaʿaṣfin maʾkūl

And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?
