Waʾarsalnā ar-riyāḥa lawāqiḥa faʾanzalnā mina as-samāʾi māʾan faʾasqaynākumūhu wamā antum lahu bikhāzinīn
And We send the winds fertilising, and cause water to descend from the sky, and give it you to drink. It is not ye who are the holders of the store thereof.

Waʾinna rabbaka huwa yaḥshuruhum innahu ḥakīmun ʿalīm
Lo! thy Lord will gather them together. Lo! He is Wise, Aware.

Faʾidhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqaʿū lahu sājidīn
So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him.
Fasajada al-malāʾikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūn
So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together

Illā iblīsa abā an yakūna maʿa as-sājidīn
Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate.

Qāla yā iblīsu mā laka allā takūna maʿa as-sājidīn
He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate?
Qāla lam akun liʾasjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥamaʾin masnūn
He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered!
Qāla fākhruj minhā faʾinnaka rajīm
He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast.
Waʾinna ʿalayka allaʿnata ilā yawmi ad-dīn
And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment.
Qāla rabbi faʾanẓirnī ilā yawmi yubʿathūn
He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised.
Qāla faʾinnaka mina al-munẓarīn
He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved
Ilā yawmi al-waqti al-maʿlūm
Till the Day of appointed time.
Qāla rabbi bimā aghwaytanī laʾuzayyinanna lahum fī al-arḍi walaʾughwiyannahum ajmaʿīn
He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one,
Illā ʿibādaka minhumu al-mukhlaṣīn
Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves.
Qāla hādhā ṣirāṭun ʿalayya mustaqīm
He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me:
Inna ʿibādī laysa laka ʿalayhim sulṭānun illā mani ittabaʿaka mina al-ghāwīn
Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee,
Waʾinna jahannama lamawʿiduhum ajmaʿīn
And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place.
Lahā sabʿatu abwābin likulli bābin minhum juzʾun maqsūm
It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion.
Inna al-muttaqīna fī jannātin waʿuyūn
Lo! those who ward off (evil) are among gardens and watersprings.
Udkhulūhā bisalāmin āminīn
(And it is said unto them): Enter them in peace, secure.
Wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin ikhwānan ʿalā sururin mutaqābilīn
And We remove whatever rancour may be in their breasts. As brethren, face to face, (they rest) on couches raised.
Lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣabun wamā hum minhā bimukhrajīn
Toil cometh not unto them there, nor will they be expelled from thence.

Waʾanna ʿadhābī huwa al-ʿadhābu al-alīm
And that My doom is the dolorous doom.
Wanabbiʾhum ʿan ḍayfi ibrāhīm
And tell them of Abraham's guests,
Idh dakhalū ʿalayhi faqālū salāman qāla innā minkum wajilūn
(How) when they came in unto him, and said: Peace. He said: Lo! we are afraid of you.

Qāla abashshartumūnī ʿalā an massaniya al-kibaru fabima tubashshirūn
He said: Bring ye me good tidings (of a son) when old age hath overtaken me? Of what then can ye bring good tidings?

Qālū bashsharnāka bil-ḥaqqi falā takun mina al-qāniṭīn
They said: We bring thee good tidings in truth. So be not thou of the despairing.

Qāla waman yaqnaṭu min raḥmati rabbihi illā aḍ-ḍāllūn

Qāla famā khaṭbukum ayyuhā al-mursalūn
He said: And afterward what is your business, O ye messengers (of Allah)?

Qālū innā ursilnā ilā qawmin mujrimīn
They said: We have been sent unto a guilty folk,
Illā āla lūṭin innā lamunajjūhum ajmaʿīn
(All) save the family of Lot. Them we shall deliver every one,
Illā imraʾatahu qaddarnā innahā lamina al-ghābirīn
Except his wife, of whom We had decreed that she should be of those who stay behind.
Falammā jāʾa āla lūṭin al-mursalūn
And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot,
Qāla innakum qawmun munkarūn
He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me).
Qālū bal jiʾnāka bimā kānū fīhi yamtarūn
They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing,
Waʾataynāka bil-ḥaqqi waʾinnā laṣādiqūn
And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers.
Faʾasri biʾahlika biqiṭʿin mina allayli wāttabiʿ adbārahum walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wāmḍū ḥaythu tuʾmarūn
So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded.
Waqaḍaynā ilayhi dhālika al-amra anna dābira hāʾulāʾi maqṭūʿun muṣbiḥīn
And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn.
Wajāʾa ahlu al-madīnati yastabshirūn
And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals).

Wāttaqū Allāha walā tukhzūn
And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not!
Qālū awalam nanhaka ʿani al-ʿālamīn

Laʿamruka innahum lafī sakratihim yaʿmahūn
By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death.
Faʾakhadhathumu aṣ-ṣayḥatu mushriqīn
Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise.
Fajaʿalnā ʿāliyahā sāfilahā waʾamṭarnā ʿalayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīl
And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay.
Inna fī dhālika laʾāyātin lilmutawassimīn
Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs.
Waʾinnahā labisabīlin muqīm
And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced.
Inna fī dhālika laʾāyatan lilmuʾminīn
Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers.
Waʾin kāna aṣḥābu al-aykati laẓālimīn
And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers.
Fāntaqamnā minhum waʾinnahumā labiʾimāmin mubīn
So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see.
Walaqad kadhdhaba aṣḥābu al-ḥijri al-mursalīn
And the dwellers in Al-Hijr denied (Our) messengers.
Waʾātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū ʿanhā muʿriḍīn
And we gave them Our revelations, but they were averse to them.
Wakānū yanḥitūna mina al-jibāli buyūtan āminīn
And they used to hew out dwellings from the hills, (wherein they dwelt) secure.
Faʾakhadhathumu aṣ-ṣayḥatu muṣbiḥīn
But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour,
Famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūn
And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not.
Wamā khalaqnā as-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā illā bil-ḥaqqi waʾinna as-sāʿata laʾātiyatun fāṣfaḥi aṣ-ṣafḥa al-jamīl
We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth, and lo! the Hour is surely coming. So forgive, (O Muhammad), with a gracious forgiveness.
Inna rabbaka huwa al-khallāqu al-ʿalīm
Lo! Thy Lord! He is the All-Wise Creator.
Walaqad ātaynāka sabʿan mina al-mathānī wal-qurʾāna al-ʿaẓīm
We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an.
Lā tamuddanna ʿaynayka ilā mā mattaʿnā bihi azwājan minhum walā taḥzan ʿalayhim wākhfiḍ janāḥaka lilmuʾminīn
Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoin, and be not grieved on their account, and lower thy wing (in tenderness) for the believers.
Waqul innī anā an-nadhīru al-mubīn
And say: Lo! I, even I, am a plain warner,
Kamā anzalnā ʿalā al-muqtasimīn
Such as We send down for those who make division,
Alladhīna jaʿalū al-qurʾāna ʿiḍīn
Those who break the Qur'an into parts.
Fawarabbika lanasʾalannahum ajmaʿīn
Them, by thy Lord, We shall question, every one,
ʿammā kānū yaʿmalūn
Of what they used to do.
Fāṣdaʿ bimā tuʾmaru waʾaʿriḍ ʿani al-mushrikīn
So proclaim that which thou art commanded, and withdraw from the idolaters.
Innā kafaynāka al-mustahziʾīn
Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers,
Alladhīna yajʿalūna maʿa Allāhi ilāhan ākhara fasawfa yaʿlamūn
Who set some other god along with Allah. But they will come to know.
Walaqad naʿlamu annaka yaḍīqu ṣadruka bimā yaqūlūn
Well know We that thy bosom is oppressed by what they say,
Fasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika wakun mina as-sājidīn
But hymn the praise of thy Lord, and be of those who make prostration (unto Him).
Wāʿbud rabbaka ḥattā yaʾtiyaka al-yaqīn
And serve thy Lord till the Inevitable cometh unto thee.
