Wal-mursalāti ʿurfā
By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another
Fal-ʿāṣifāti ʿaṣfā
By the raging hurricanes,
Wan-nāshirāti nashrā
By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;
Fal-fāriqāti farqā
By those who winnow with a winnowing,
Fal-mulqiyāti dhikrā
By those who bring down the Reminder,
ʿudhran aw nudhrā
To excuse or to warn,
Innamā tūʿadūna lawāqiʿ
Surely that which ye are promised will befall.
Faʾidhā an-nujūmu ṭumisat
So when the stars are put out,
Waʾidhā as-samāʾu furijat
And when the sky is riven asunder,
Waʾidhā al-jibālu nusifat
And when the mountains are blown away,
Waʾidhā ar-rusulu uqqitat
And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -
Liʾayyi yawmin ujjilat
For what day is the time appointed?
Liyawmi al-faṣl
For the Day of Decision.
Wamā adrāka mā yawmu al-faṣl
And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -
Waylun yawmaʾidhin lilmukadhdhibīn
Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Alam nuhliki al-awwalīn
Destroyed We not the former folk,
Thumma nutbiʿuhumu al-ākhirīn
Then caused the latter folk to follow after?
Kadhālika nafʿalu bil-mujrimīn
Thus deal We ever with the guilty.
Waylun yawmaʾidhin lilmukadhdhibīn
Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Alam nakhluqkkum min māʾin mahīn
Did We not create you from a base fluid
Fajaʿalnāhu fī qarārin makīn
Which We laid up in a safe abode
Ilā qadarin maʿlūm
For a known term?
Faqadarnā faniʿma al-qādirūn
Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!
Waylun yawmaʾidhin lilmukadhdhibīn
Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Aḥyāʾan waʾamwātā
Both for the living and the dead,
Wajaʿalnā fīhā rawāsiya shāmikhātin waʾasqaynākum māʾan furātā
And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein?
Waylun yawmaʾidhin lilmukadhdhibīn
Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Inṭaliqū ilā mā kuntum bihi tukadhdhibūn
(It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;
Inṭaliqū ilā ẓillin dhī thalāthi shuʿab
Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,
Lā ẓalīlin walā yughnī mina Allāhab
(Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.
Innahā tarmī bishararin kal-qaṣr
Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,

(Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.

Hādhā yawmu lā yanṭiqūn
This is a day wherein they speak not,
Walā yuʾdhanu lahum fayaʿtadhirūn
Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.

This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.

Faʾin kāna lakum kaydun fakīdūn
If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.

Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,

Wafawākiha mimmā yashtahūn
And fruits such as they desire.
