Signpost

The signpost from the park corner, for your desk. Tell us where it stands, name the places that matter — where you're from, where they are, where you met, the cities you dream of — and every sign says exactly how far away it is, with an arrow pointing its way. Call one

Tap a sign's arrow to flip it, its colours to change them, its name to call it something else ("Grandma's"). Drag order is the order on the post, top to bottom.

How it's made. The post is a 14 mm square bar with a row of pockets down its front; every sign is 120 × 24 mm with a peg on its back that pushes into a pocket, so the signs stack in any order and pull free. The lettering and the arrow are set 1 mm into each sign in a second colour. Distances are great-circle miles (or kilometres) from where the post stands; the arrow on every sign is the same, pointing right when the place lies east of you and left when it lies west — flip any you like. Standing, the post is about 22 cm tall with six signs, on an 80 mm base. For a pole, a tree or a fence the post has a 40 mm plate down its back with six countersunk screw holes and four slots for a zip tie or a hose clamp, and it is printed in PETG for the weather — a dab of glue in each pocket keeps the signs on outside.
